The Barnes Foundation is proud to support our local community. Below are additional programs and organizations that we have made contributions to.
We're proud to share with you that our Sizzlin' Summer Raffle on August 25, 2011 raised $23,000 for the American Cancer Society's Illinois Patient Navigation Services, an organization that provides a full spectrum of hands-on care to Illinois residents battling cancer. We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who purchased a raffle ticket or made a donation.
In December of 2010, the Barnes Foundation donated $1,000 to the
George Werden Buck Boys & Girls Club in Joliet, who put the donation
toward their Toys for Tots program. We also dontated $2,000 to the
Children's Enrichment Foundation, a charitable foundation managed by
Children's Habilitation Center in Harvey.
The funds for these donations were raised by employees of Professional Medical, Inc.
Each month, ProMed employees have the option of participating in "Jean Fridays"
and donating $5 in order to wear jeans to work on Fridays. The employees then donate
the money that is raised to the Barnes Foundation to use in their charitable efforts.
The Barnes Foundation hosted its second annual community-wide Walk/Run for Life on August 28th, 2010. All of the proceeds of the walk were used to support the American Cancer Society's Illinois Patient Navigation Services. This year's event raised $37,000! The money will help fund a program that offers a full spectrum of hands-on cancer support.
The Barnes Foundation provided a donation to become an Celebration of Giving Sponsor for Easter Seals Annual Telethon. Family members of the Foundation will be on a local television event broadcast live on Comcast Cable channel 103 and on www.joliet.easterseals.com, from the Renaissance Center in Joliet. The Barnes Foundation paired up with Morningstar Missions to reach 300 families in need of help at Easter time. We are volunteering and donating 300 hams (almost 5,000lbs) to families in our community that could not have an Easter Dinner without help. The leftovers will also go to contribute to their annual Easter dinner in house as well everyday meals.
The Barnes Foundation donated goods, clothes, and gift cards to several families in need of help at Christmas time. All of the families have been experiencing hard economical times and were unable to provide Christmas for their families. The Founation made it possible to have a very Merry Holiday season.
The Foundation participated in raising money for an event to support Multiple Sclerosis Research and Funding. The event was Cocktailing for the Cause at the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago. The Foundation president also attended the event with friends, two of which have been diagnosed with MS.
The Barnes Foundation hosted its first annual community-wide Walk for Life on October 4. The 30,000 raised was matched by the Duchossois Family to make a $60,000 donation. All of the proceeds of the walk will again benefit the American Cancer Society's Illinois Patient Navigation Services. Patient Navigation Services offers a full spectrum of hands-on cancer support.
